CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES CLEARED OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST ALLEGATIONS

February 1, 2012.

Stevensons lawyers Colin Stevenson and Maureen Whelton recently represented Toronto Catholic District School Board Trustee Angela Kennedy in her successful appeal under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. The Divisional Court overturned a lower court decision finding that Trustee Kennedy was in a conflict of interest when participating in a Board meeting in 2008. Media coverage of the appeal can be found here.

Stevensons previously represented Trustee Barbara Poplawski in her successful defence against unfounded allegations she had improperly attempted to influence voting at the same meeting. The decision relating to Trustee Poplawski can be found here.

Both decisions serve to vindicate Trustees Kennedy and Poplawski and recognize their valuable contributions to the Board.
